Classic Mussels Steamed in White Wine: Moules Marinières

“Moules Marinières” is a beloved coastal French classic. Plump mussels steamed in butter, garlic, shallots, and white wine are incredibly fast to prepare.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • Mussels (in shell): 300g (cleaned and de-bearded)
  • Onion or shallot: 1/4 cup (finely chopped)
  • Garlic: 1 clove (minced)
  • Butter: 15g
  • Dry white wine: 100ml
  • Fresh parsley (chopped): for garnish

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Melt butter in a deep pot over medium heat. Sauté garlic and onions until soft.
  2. Add Mussels: Turn heat to high and add the cleaned mussels.
  3. Steam: Pour in white wine and cover immediately with a lid. Steam for 2–3 minutes until all shells pop open.
  4. Garnish: Throw away any closed shells, toss with parsley, and serve hot with crusty bread or French fries.
